The assessment is conducted in accordance with AS 3959 (Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas) and assigns a BAL rating that ranges from BAL–LOW (minimal risk) to BAL–FZ (Flame Zone – extreme risk). The result of a BAL assessment guides the required construction standards to ensure the building is designed to minimise the risk of ignition and enhance safety for occupants in bushfire-prone areas.
